Park Ranger and Park Guide Positions, Posted: 1/21/12

I wanted to give you and update about our hiring. There are changes ahead

in the way students are hired in the federal government.

The Riverway is still seeking to fill several GS-4 Park Guide positions for

the summer in Trego and St. Croix Falls, and one summer GS-5 Park Ranger

position in St. Croix Falls.

However, the Office of Personnel Management began a process just last week

to phase out the federal STEP hiring authority and replace it with a new

program, called Pathways. Details are still sketchy, but the immediate

importance is that parks will now only be able to hire students under the

STEP program if we have all application materials submitted by January 26.

Implementation of the new Pathways program will not begin until late

spring.

Due this short notice, we have also decided to post an announcement through

the USAJobs website to fill the summer GS-4 Park Guide positions. We

anticipate this will be posted towards the end of the month or early

February.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and please encourage

interested students to submit all of their application materials by January

26th.

Thanks.
